Nice candidate for restoration! Westerns are one of my favorite carts, I have two myself right now. As for year, with westerns it usually is the first 3 numbers are the model of western that you have, the next 2 numbers are the month and year the cart was manufactured. You can sometimes get a hold of western and they can help as well. I have spoken to them a couple times over the past year or so. They are called "lido motors" but they are western as well. They are still selling new carts to some places, including several dealers in South Florida. They were very expensive carts in their day, the new ones are getting $15,000+ for the top of the line model.

Yours appears to be sitting on an early ego marathon chassis. So you should be able to match it up to one of the wiring diagrams at this link. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...g-manuals.html

These are egzo diagrams so they will not have specifics for western like the accessory wiring that you will probably have to just trace yourself.

Just got new batteries and took it out for a test drive. I left the shifter in fwd and left it sit. Two hours later all dead and motor is warm. What's up with that?

It wants to move slightly when shifted back and forth

I think that's a Western 100 2+2. The chassis number is not in the normal format for a 1991, but it still could be.

Is the chassis number easy to read? Is it possible there are more numbers?

I've attached an owner's manual, with wiring diagrams.

I can't see the pedal/micro mechanism in the wiring diagram, but I would make sure the solenoid is not active with your foot off the pedal.
The solenoid should not be powered with your foot off the pedal. Look at the pedal, and see what method of activation the solenoid uses, then make sure it's adjusted to shut off when the pedal is released.

I think that's much older than a '91, and my Western chassis decoding document does not show any serial less than 9 digits.

It's a resistor cart, and would guess it's from the 80's.

I've attached a wiring diagram that should be appropriate. There's ppl with more experience regarding resistor carts on the forum that may be able to help, but the circuit diagram is pretty simple.

Your last pic show s a good shot of the solenoid. If you've got a DVOM, you can test it to see if it's always energized.

I would look for the microswitch MS-3 in the wiring diagram. I think that's the one keeping the system alive.
After looking more closely at your last pic, that microswitch may be immediately to the right of the solenoid. Kind of hard to tell, but the wiring looks like it goes there.
