You can try just jumper wires first to test. You can also replace the fnr switch completely with a dpdt toggle switch and housing. I think johnnieb did a write up a while back.

It's late, but I thought when I asked him to do a continuity test, BOTH froward and reverse started working, which is why I figured if either direction in a controller died, it was dead. If it can come intermittent, I'm wrong.

This is a DCS or PDS cart based on the picture of the fnr so different than a series cart that has has one go circuit. I have attached a dcs diagram

Here is the thread on the switch replacement. Standard club car switch and bezel about $20

OP stated it was a DCS. I just figured when he started "wiggling" wires/cables, and not only one, but BOTH forward and reverse started working, it's unlikely the guts of the controller had any clue what was done externally. In other words, wiggling wires making both forward and reverse work was more likely a problem outside the controller.

I also said I'm a series guy, which the OP said he had at first, then clarified.

We'll wish him luck on it being a cheap fix.

Agreed. I am also just trying to help the op out and hope I am not coming across as trying to talk down to anyone. My suggestion is to go ahead and replace the fnr assembly with the new style just to eliminate switch problems and it is cheaper then see what happens next. May also want to look at putting that switch upside down to keep water out as well as being susceptible to someone hitting the switch while driving.

How would I put it upside down?

I like KGSC's suggestion to try jumping the two switches, to confirm controller is not bad. Just look at the wiring diagram and/or remove FNR assembly, and jump the microswitches for forward and reverse. We already saw a photo of one microswitch that lost one wire, so we know it was intermittent at best.

If everything works, then OP can decide whether to just stick with the original FNR or upgrade to a better switch. By "upgrade", this isn't implying it's more heavy duty, like a series FNR.

So as not to confuse the OP, EZ-GO used two of the three abbreviations we see here. I chose FNR, since Neutral was one position. F&R and F/R are also used here, but one can't be found on EZGO's site.
