Default 2000 DS Project Cart with H.S. Motor

I picked up a 48 Volt 2000 CC DS project cart a few weeks back for $150!! It is a Series cart with Serial # A0039-937740. I figured for that price it was a steel. I got it home clean it up, installed batteries and new 4 gauge cables. I soon realized this was no stock motor. The cart took off like a bat out of hell. I couldn't believe how fast it was, 23-24 mph on flat ground! The motor is a GE 5BC49JB3071 4.0/5.5 HP with a Silver Controller. Does anyone know what size controller this might be? Is this combination something that Club Car built (motor/controller upgrade) as a special cart or is this an aftermarket upgrade?

The end of the controller will have the model # and rated amperage.

And that motor is GE's version of the "Bad Boy" motor. AMD made a lot of money making their Bad Boy Series to replace it. Never personally had one but plenty of friends loved them....

I have the AMD version of that motor and I'm very pleased with it. It has quite a bit of torque and I'm averaging 28 mph with a 500a controller on 20x10x10 AT tires.

From the casing, the controller looks to be a FSIP, but like Nole mentioned, the tag on the end should give you the amperage.

Based on the fact that its a CC and a silver control, I bet its a Curtis 1204-410. This was a 225amp controller with three buss bars and was stock in some CC DS carts. This could have also upgraded to 400amps by FSIP, the end plate will tell all.

I had to take the controller completely off and here is what I found. I think I know why this car is so fast now. I assume this is an after market controller.

I have not seen that name in years. There use to be a lot of them, maybe got bought up or became an affiliate with another big company. They were out of Texas.

They were very reputable controllers and used by a lot of people around here.

That will give you the power, but the speed is coming from that motor....

Thanks for your feedback Nolefan. I now have a better understanding of what this cart can do. It might really go if I lift it with bigger tires.
