Yes, follow the guide listed above.
Charge them fully BEFORE you drive the cart. |

Re: Proper break in for new batteries
Here is what I would suggest when getting new batteries:
1) Check the voltage of each battery before you accept them. I would be concerned if any battery was below an 80% state of charge. That means the batteries could have been sitting around for a while and if left for a significant amount of time below 80%, they could be subject to some amount of permanent sulfation. The batteries should all be within 0.1 volts of each other. 2) You will also want to check the dates on the batteries (stamped in the lead or laser stamped on the cases) to ensure they are recently manufactured ... I would not want to by buying new batteries that are older than 3 months. 3) After installing you batteries, record each battery voltage again and the total pack voltage. Best NOT to test drive the cart with them even though you may really want to 4) Charge your batteries fully ... and here is the hard part ... wait 12 to 24 hours for the voltage to stabilize. Record the fully charged stabilized voltage preferably after 24 hours. Confirm using a state of charge chart that your batteries are charged 100% (or greater) ... if not, you may need to check your charger to ensure that it is charging properly. 5) Break your batteries in gently ... avoid all high amperage situations where possible during the break in period ... it will pay dividends with a longer battery life. Avoid sudden acceleration, "pedal to the metal" moments and strong uphill acceleration. I have an ammeter on my cart and tried to keep my battery draw to less than 100 amps (on my heavy cart) with a gentle petal during the break in period. I know that my cart can draw 400+ amps ... but avoid high amp situations for at least the first 50 hours. 6) As ScottyB points out in his guide(see: https://www.cartsunlimited.net/battery-break-in-.html), limit your discharge and charge after every use. My typical discharge was only 10 or 20% before charging during the break in period. I realize that some of the above may not be possible for every application ... but a gentle break in of your batteries, frequent charging and proper maintenance will result in a longer battery life ... it may mean the difference of a 2 year battery life or a 5+ year battery life. |

Trojans or equivalent 8 volts:
100% is 8.49 volts 80% is 8.33 volts Other battery makes may be slightly different voltage. See attached state of charge chart which is for trojan type batteries: Carts Unlimited State of Charge Chart.JPG |
