Default Ezgo Series cart troubleshooting.

When I take a reading across the solenoid and it's over 6 volts less on the controller side, that indicated the resistor is bad. Can that stop the cart from running completely ? Is it needed? Can I at least try running it without it for the short term to test it? Seems I've seen lots of carts without them completely.

I'm not sure I understand you. You say you took a reading across the solenoid, but get 6 volts less on controller side. Are you actually measuring across the solenoid, or did you take two readings referencing pack negative?

Anyway, it is not needed for the cart to run, or for troubleshooting. It simply keeps the capacitors fully charged in the controller, which avoids pitting of the contacts inside the solenoid.

What I mean is I took the following voltage readings, with thr negative lead on the first battery..
Pack voltage: 38.4
Voltage at battery side of solenoid: 38.4
Voltage at controller side: 32.1

I was using the troubleshooting guide posted as a sticky on this site. It said the controller side should be .1 to 3 volts less than the battery side. If its a larger difference than that, the resistor is bad. If the voltage reads the same, the solenoid may be bad.

If the resistor doesn't matter that much, I'll continue my testing.
