Don't think that is a "regen diode". I think it's the standard diode that goes across the solenoid coil to reduce the voltage spike that happens when the coil circuit is broken. It goes on the small terminals!

That is the regen diode! It goes between the two large post with the red to the battery side. The XCT does not require the fly back diode on the small post.

I have two carts with XCT controllers and both have the diode on the small terminals. That is what is shown in the Alltrax schematic that came with the controllers! Those small diodes would not be able to handle Regen current. They are 3 amp diodes. If in doubt, look carefully at your Alltrax schematic that was included with your controller!!!

You are both right. And I'm right too

The diode shown is the Alltrax 6 amp Regen diode.
It goes on the big terminals for XCT in Club Car and Ezgo.

The XCT has a built in suppression diode so yeah, plenty of them out there have been running without the external suppression diode for YEARS.

But Alltrax got wind of this and insisted we put the solenoid diode back on so we did.

Oh Geez, I'm confused again. I already have a diode on the big terminals which was there stock.

I'm going to add that diode pictured to the front terminals since every wiring diagram Alltrax publishes on their site has a diode there. (I think)

The manual is crap.

You probably have a resistor on the big terminals NOT a diode. The Alltrax requires the 2 diodes you were sent to be installed, nothing more. Toss the resistor aside. The Alltrax has a built in precharge system to cover that function. I hope this helps

When did Alltrax start shipping a "Regen Diode"? I have had mine for 6 years and it only came with a flyback diode for the small terminals. I have never seen one with a Regen Diode and my schematics from Alltrax don't show one. I assume that it's there in case the solenoid opens while Regen is going on.

Has it really been 6 years since the XCT introduction? I think they started using them within a year of production. As far as I was told it is to protect in the event the key is shut off while the cart is in motion. Note Ezgo and CC only.

We have them for sale on our solenoid page. Order one and I'll refund the diode cost for you Sir

I've had my first one for 6 years (early 2016)- and with Lithium. My second one is only 2 years old - on a different cart. I will have to look at the more recent one's schematic. I did not notice a difference and I did not receive or install a "Regen Diode".

Yamaha doesn't use one - it's only required on Ezgo and CC
