Default 36v dpi accusense charger issue after electrical storm

After an electrical storm my 2 year old charger would click relay and rapidly blink 'power on' and 'charged' leds and not charge. I took it to my local ezgo dealer who tested it and informed my that my charger was defective. The transformer metered good and I was convinced that I had a defective control board ($150). I decided to try it once more and my 9 year old grand daughter plugged the dc cable into the cart before I got the ac connected and it turned on and has been charging all day. For 30 years I have always connected ac then dc. Have I just been incredibly lucky or is my charger still suspect. The doc for the charger actually says connect dc first. Thanks in advance.

I have always turned on the AC first with my Yamaha carts. I do the same with my Lithium charger. I'm sure most chargers are designed so that it works either way.

Someone posted here several years ago that they had talked to a DPI rep and he said that it didn't make any difference which one you plugged in first. I remember that because mine is just the opposite of yours - if I plug in the AC first it will work, but if I plug in the DC first it will usually fail. It will blink a few times and then the red light will come on. There is something wrong for it to act that way, but I will use it until it dies on me.

I learned years ago that you plug in the device (golf cart) first then plug into the AC. Glad your granddaughter is smarter than all of us! Good job girl!

If mine gets unplugged from the wall it is by accident! Mind you I do have it on a surge protector as the steel quonset has been struck by lightning before.
