1984 club car Gas
I've looked everywhere I can think of for a idler bearing for my drive clutch, I can find the part for1992 and up but not for 1984. I found this part number 1014049 on Golf cart parts direct, supposed to be for 1984-1991, but I looked it up on other vendors , they show 92 and up for the number. I'm totally confused. Help !!!!
Thanks Larry |

Well yes, I also looked on the internet and your right, nothing pops up for your 1984 cart.
Try this, take the bearing to your local bearing shop. They most likely will be able to match up an off the shelf part for you. |

Re: 1984 club car Gas
Do you have a picture of it?
The idler bearing on the newer clutches is not just a regular bearing. |

Re: 1984 club car Gas
No picture of bearing, but pictures of clutch. Maybe newer clutch, bought cart this way. I had clutch apart this past fall, bearing looks like the 92 and up bearing , should have replaced when it was a part. Not smart on my end.
sent pics of my clutch and pic of 92 up bearing. Clutch has Club car and 5000 rpm max. printed on outside. Thanks Larry |

Re: 1984 club car Gas
That is the newer style 92 and up clutch.
Even when those bearings lock up I've never had much issue with them. I do replace them if they're seized when I do a rebuild, but they don't do much except under only certain times when the clutch is fully opened. Any time the engine is running the clutch is clamped down on the belt and the idler is not even being touched. If its the actual bearing balls are worn and its causing it to rattle that can be a problem, but the only time that bearing sees any use is when the cart is moving very slow in gear, or if the engine is starting. Or if you are freewheeling down-hill with the transmission in gear. What's going on with it that you think the bearing needs to be replaced? |

Re: 1984 club car Gas
The 1984-1987 Salsbury drive clutches did not have idler bearings. That's why you don't see a listing for one. The newer style 1988-up clutches had idler bearings. Your cart was likely upgraded at some point with a newer drive clutch.

Re: 1984 club car Gas
Thanks again, I thought it might be 92 and up but wasn;t sure. Bearing makes a high pitched squeal when going down big hills with foot off throttle ( engine stopped ). If I keep engine running no noise.
