Re: 2003 EZ GO ST350 Backfiring
It's very hard for a cart to come out of 'time'. Did it backfire before the govenor mod?

Re: 2003 EZ GO ST350 Backfiring
Hello again,
Forgot another possibillity! Is there a spring on the butterfly which holds it closed and is it strong enough to keep it closed? The engine can suck the butterfly open..... Benno |

Re: 2003 EZ GO ST350 Backfiring
OK - Let's clarify this...
When exactly does it backfire? While driving? After you stop? While coasting? While under full throttle? Half throttle? |

Re: 2003 EZ GO ST350 Backfiring
Sounds like post detonation. Your engine is probably SO HOT from over reving that the fuel left in the cylinder detonates. You should start adding some govenor back until the problem stops.
Changing the govenor doesn't change the timing |

Re: 2003 EZ GO ST350 Backfiring
Hello Mike & Co,
We overhere call that "nadieselen" So getting a diesel after shutting off. When older cars with adjustable ignition and points did this you had to readjust the ignition with or without new points. Is your ignitionsystem and cables allright, not a to high resistance so you have a to late ignition? Another point is high carbonfouling (Glowing....!) in the engine, so clean it up with a cleaningsubstance in the gas or take the head of. Working like a diesel is not so good for the gasengine because it is a unregular burning with suddenly very high presures. Its like bumping your head very hard under a sealing, table or so! With a good ventilated enginebay and everything working properly, with those couple of revs extra, it should not be the reason / overheating. The piston want's to go up, but gets a blast on its head to go down! Remember my engine with 8500 revs, air or watercooled, had never dieselproblems. Benno |
