G2 power loss?
Thinking about buying a G2..It idles good but it doesnt have enough power to hill climb.. Owner said it did till about 2 weeks ago..Will this this be an expensive fix or is it possibly a carb problem..Any info would be greatly appreciated

If motor runs, then I would start with 1 shot of grease in each zirk on each clutch sheave. Each sheave has a zirk, find them and grease them and it may run.
Upon reading again, is the throttle cable broken? |

also check the engine bracket tension cable (small cable under the air cleaner keeps tension when the motor torques) if the price is right buy! parts are easy to find; and they are pretty easy to work on. this forum helps alot

my g9 had no power unless choke was on, had to run choke on all the time, cleaned carb and it fixed it

Thanks for the info guys..The seller wants 950. for it and the body is fine and it has a lift with new 22 tires. I was going to drop 650 for a lift and tires for my g9 anyway.. I believe the tires on the g2 will fit my g9, am i right on this? If it will, I may just buy it and swap them. Any imput?

the g2 and g9 are identical except for some aluminum trim on the 2 is rubber on the 9, hardly noticable.......$950 sounds good

The G2 has a rev. limiter i am led to believe. They are a pain in the ???. So sticking with the G9 might be better in my opinion. Also newer.
Try to get it cheaper, swap the lift and other parts to your 9, then sell the 2 to recoup the costs. |

The g2 also has a torque kit.. He said " It ran great up until a couple of weeks ago. It still runs, (runs as in the engine is actually firing, not just the starter motor driving it) but cant seem to get enough gas to climb a hill.
The cart is about 3 hrs away,, he probably wont take much less because he said he has already been low-balled...What do you think guys ? Is it worth my time and money? I am kinda leaning that way..It will be a couple weeks before I can get there to buy it. Man I think I have buggy fever and I just traded for my first one (the g9) this week! Thanks for the info..this is one great forum!! |

your call but if you figure your time driving to go get it and back then selling the 9 and getting the 2 running then is it really worth the trouble? I would say keep the 9 and build it EXACTLY how you want it

Search "rev limiter" on a yamaha, these guys are all complaining about hitting it, and how to eliminate it. And you can't. You have to wire in a G9 CDI.
Since you haven't seen it, it may not have the wheels and tires that you want, or the lift for that matter. Torque springs are good experience. You need to install one. And do the maintenance on your 9 while you do it. By the way- Welcome to the site, enjoy the disease!! We want pictures of your 9!
