Making 4 Gauge Cables
Has anyone written a thread on making your own 4 gauge (or any gauge really) cables? I can't seem to find one, but it seems to me that buying a 25ft spool of copper from Lowe's for $30 makes more sense than spending the $100 on cables.

Well I would recommend you talk to Scotty ay carts unlimited. His cakes are absolutely amazing. They are silver soldered ends and come labeled. You get what you pay for. His cables so little to zero resistance. So take that in to mind.

Re: Making 4 Gauge Cables
all I did was bought welding cable from a local welding supply and the correct gauge copper terminals from NAPA, they were the cheepest, just make sure they match both the wire size and the battery stud size. Then I would remove one cable cut the wire to match its length, strip of about 5/8 inch of the outside coating put a terminal in my vice with the open end pointing straight up heat it with a hand held torch and fill it with solder then shove the wire in, once both sides were done I would cover the conection with black tape and install, get a beer, move onto next wire

Re: Making 4 Gauge Cables
Forget Lowes copper. I just made a set for my cart this past weekend. I used #4 tinned marine grade wire with tinned lugs.I used shrink tube with the heat glue inside so that no water can get to the copper even if by some quirk I chipped the tin. 30 lugs (2 extra), 26' of cable and 6' of shrink tube was right at $100. I know that I will not be having any trouble out of these cables.

Re: Making 4 Gauge Cables
You can usually get 4ga welding cable from a local welding supply for around $1.00 a foot and a lug with solder and shrink tube for $1.00 each.

Re: Making 4 Gauge Cables
Is there any firm testing between crimped and soldered on an equal ground for comparing?
