Yamaha Service manual indicates 5500 RPM red zone as well.

I have no idea what rpm is a red line for these motors. If you've seen the valve springs in them, I don't think they can get anywhere near 4000. Especially with large tires on them. Now going down hill, different story, don't be on the throttle hard, when going down hill. The cam, same story, very mild.

I just listen for valve float, and get out of it when I think I hear it. Which has only happened once in 2 yrs. Also I have mine set up so the throttle only opens about 80 %. YOu can't stay at wide open throttle for more than 5 ta 10 seconds anyway, so its not that big a deal. Other than climbing a hill. You guys with rev limiters are probably just a bit safer than the rest of us.

Good luck Mike

Thanks Mike, Thats what I keep telling the grandkids whenever they are out riding. 18-20mph is plenty fast for them and thank gawd mine has the rev limiter on it because of that...lol My Harley doesn't have an RPM gauge on it and you can tell by the sound if your hurting the motor or not. I think the same would apply to a golf cart.
