@#%%#$% front shocks - help!
Bottom nuts come off of the stems no problem at all. Top nuts are rusted together. PB Blaster'd them and let them sit over dinner. Blasted them again and beat as best I could.
Still no go. Having to hold shock with channel locks and the top nut through the drink holder tray. Both mine and my wife's arms are cut to shreds, hands are cut to shreds and I'm about to go get a sledgehammer... any and all ideas that would keep me from having to remove the front cowl and/or dash would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: @#%%#$% front shocks - help!
I access upper shock bolt by pulling the cowl dust shield down and sneaking a hand with a wrench in from the front under the cowl, and turning the shock or holding the shock if you have a ratcheting wrench...

Do you use channel locks on the shock to turn it? When I say these are rusted together... its an understatement.

Mine were the exact same way. No penetrating oil is going to cut it. Sorry bud. I had to use a saw zaw and cut mine off. So without removing the front cowl I am not sure exactly how to do it. LOL but that also is a good excuse to paint your body a different color if you want to.

Re: @#%%#$% front shocks - help!
ScottyB saves the day again. Pulled the dust shiled down, still couldn't get it to budge - just couldn't get the leverage. Finally got my head out of my and took the front headlight out. Without going under the dust shiled, didn't matter. Above the dust shiled had that last 1/2" of thread done in about 10 minutes.
That shock will never be the same. The other one can wait it's turn - just got done with the nightly exercise so now it's time for shower and bed! ScottyB you're a genius! Never would have thought I could get that shield down that far... |

Re: @#%%#$% front shocks - help!
Still haveb't tried the other shock yet - have to wait until I get home this evening, and looks like I'll be working late as usual (why do servers always blow up when I have a project I'm working on???)
Found a deal on KYB #343219, since my local shops didn't carry the size I needed on Monroe's. Only paid $10 more for these. Gas charged, Collapsed Length 10.31 in, Extended Length: 17.4 in, 7.09" travel. We'll see. |
