NO spark with points system

I have an ezgo gas marathon which has no spark. I have looked all over and can not find the tag in order to figure out the year of the cart. The cart still has the points system which from my research tells me that it is late 70's. When I inititally turn the key I will get spark for a second and thats it. I am new with these, so if you could give me any advice of where to go from here. The motor will turn over it just doesnt have the spark to fire it up. Thanks

http://www.shopezgo.com/customer-ser...ialNumber.html this should help with the year model.it sounds like you have power to the coil(test + terminal with test lite with key on) and that the points have either burned or out of adjustment.Try testing -side of coil while cranking.The test lite should have a strong flashing lite while cranking if points are correct.TurboTim
