Default Golf Cart value

I was wondering if someone could tell me if I got a good deal on my cart? It is a 1997 Yamaha G16AR. I'm the third owner. The first was a golfer that used it for about 9 years, the second was an 80 something year old man that used it to ride his grandchildren around. He told me that he kept it under a shed and it had never been rained on. As far as I can tell, it is in good shape but it doesn't appear that he did much maintenance on it, other than oil changes etc. I've found just a couple of problems with it but nothing major. When you press the gas to start it, it doesn't always start. You have to press it repeatedly to get it to start. And the drive belt slips when you try a steep incline, although it doesn't seem to be worn out. Could it just be hard, making it slip or is it something with the drive clutch maybe?? I gave him $500 for it and hope it wasn't too much. Thanks for any help with this. I have many many questions about this cart and hope y'all can help me. I'm new to this whole cart thing.

$500 for a running G16 is a great price. Change the oil--1qt 10w-30, and get a new drive belt. Check the operation of both clutches as they may need to be rebuilt due to the age of the cart. If it drives and doesn't smoke I think did good. You can download the owners manual here. http://yamahagolfcar.com/partsandser...rsmanuals.aspx

I would've paid $500 for that G16 without even thinking about it...great price.

I agree, 500.00 for a G16-a is a great deal. How do the body panels look?

The body looks great. Nothing broken, just a couple of scratches down each side where someone went through something too narrow. It doesn't smoke but the thing that the cable pivots on at the transmission when you press the pedal to start it, is loose. It is temperamental when starting. You have to press it a few times to get it to start. Also, is there somewhere that I can look to see a way to lift it myself?? I think I can do it but I'm worried about the caster on the front wheels. I just want about a 4" lift.

Go to the lifted carts section here and do a search on G16. The front suspension is pretty much the same design for most of the early carts, but they are different from model to model. Pachanga has his own design that is pretty stout and economical. He has a thread and a website.

Clean the fuel system and make sure no cracked lines. If the fuel got old and left some residue that could be part of the starting problem. Check the plug too.
