Great feedback, I appreciate it. I am just planning on keeping it stock for the most part. Custom wheels and a black paint job. No lift and no rear seat. I'm actually gonna be using the bag well to hold golf clubs! I really want to maintain the vintage qualities of the cart and showcase that it is a vintage cart. Heck I was born in 81 so I'm amazed at the shape this 32 year old cart is in. It's had some good previous owners. I've also got a 1978 EZ-GO three wheel cart. It's the last year they made a three wheel. It's also in great shape for 37 years old and I plan on refurbishing it as well. |

Re: 83 Club Car project
If you're OK with 12-14 mph I would keep it stock given your intended usage. Solid state carts are really nice, but for your intended usage the resistor system will function very reliably.
3 wheel carts are sweet, I have an 82 gas EZGO project, an 87 sparky, and a 71 Harley Model D. All 3 wheelers, can't beat the turning radius on those bad boys. |

Re: 83 Club Car project
I have to say I would just fix it up paint and clean. Change it later if and when it stops working for You. I have an 85 CC Ds I changed to # 2ga welding cables because I use it to plow snow which it does very well. It has a 6" lift and 12" wheels on it I figured I'd change to a larger controller 500amp UP when it breaks Its still going since 2008 Oh ! I for got has a back seat also. used at campground in the summer winter at home to plow snow and ride around the neighbor hood. Joe 100

FNR switch and charger plug Solenoid bank resistor coils Speed control with wires running to resistors. Could I change this out for a V-Glide??? Fluid around the the steering box but I think it's just excess grease. The steering seems to be working fine. Let me know your thoughts on what you see in the pictures. My plan so far is to replace the battery tray support angles with aluminum angles. Previous owner must have welded together steel angles and they are rusted out and not even attached to the frames. Then replace batteries and all of the cables. I'm thinking this should get it running but I'm wondering if I need to replace the solenoids and resistor coils and all that wiring running from the speed control unit that's connected to the throttle? Also if that needs to be done I wonder if I could install a V-Glide instead...? |

Better pic of the speed control/speed switches.
Here is the wiring diagram for this cart for reference: |

Re: 83 Club Car project
Transaxle is definitely the older style, but don't know if it's a Fuji or Terrell. Things look normal given the age. You can't put a Vglide against the 5 solenoids, you'd have to go with it and the coils for it which are pretty weak versus the 5 solenoid setup. IMO, go through the current system and make it work, it's the most bulletproof (again, IMO) of the resistor setups.

Sweet. That's what I was hoping! Appreciate it! I made pretty good progress this weekend on demo. Now time to start rebuilding! |

Did 2 ga. Cables increase torque/speed vs the 4 ga cables? I'm assuming you're still running through the resistor coils? |

Would I see any benefit in using 2 ga cables vs 4 ga cables?

Re: 83 Club Car project
It's pretty unlikely, especially given the fact that you're sticking with stock drive parts. Larger cables usually equal more torque and not speed, but resistor carts are characteristically torque monsters anyhow. They're not known for their great accomplishments in the field of speed, but torque is their redeeming factor.
