Default 2005 Villager 8 clutch

I replaced the drive belt, but the clutch grabs from a standstill.
This is a key start cart, so engine hits a certain rpm and the clutch grabs creating a jerky start.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Adjust the idle screw on the top of your carb so that it will just barely idel but not allow the belt to grab.

It idles fine without creeping. It is when you press the accellerator, the rpms increase and then when it hits a certain rpm the clutch engages all at once and the cart jerks forward.

Are your clutches opening properly and smoothly?

They appear to be. When you run it in neutral they look fine.

Sounds like the belt just needs to be broke in? How long ago did you say you replaced it?

It will feel jerky till it seats and it may take a good ten twelve hours of run time to do this.

I ordered a replacement belt based on the part number on the belt currently on the cart. The parts list listed a different belt, although I don't believe I have the original engine.
This is a 2005, that, I believe came with a FE350. It currently has a FE400.
The belt that I ordered was a PN 102267101, which was currently on the cart and is a 38" belt. The belt on the parts list is shorter, approx 37". Just for grins, I ordered a Gates 6013 belt, which is shorter yet, 36 3/4, yet slightly thinner, should have it this week, so we will see how this all works out.
Been doing the HiPo stuff for the last 45 years, loving the fact that you can experiment for a $50 bill and total fuel usage is less than $50 for the year for 2 carts.

Have a boat, where any experiment starts at $1k and burns 18 gph at speed.

I gave my wife a villager 6 and gave my friend the other one I got in trade. Both are '04's with the keystart always running setup. The jerky is there to stay. It sucks and I hate it. Makes it pulling another cart or trailer slowly dang near impossible. I've been wondering if the CPP 200rpm drive clutch spring would fix it or not but I haven't tried it. I don't drive her cart that much. Both carts do it and so does my other friends DS that is keystart.
