Re: Rookie
Your G1 could have had 2 different styles of primary (front) clutch on it from the factory. One was all aluminum (repair parts are non-existent), other had a steel "hat" on it (can be freshened up pretty easily). Hopefully your clutch cover on the engine looks like this (minus the stupid black paint). It's parts are available.

Re: Rookie
When looking for the other OEM clutch pictures, all I find are aftermarket clutches, and computer mouses..... It had 4 ribs on the outside of it's aluminum housing, and it's not repairable these days, no parts. They all used "J10" belts.

Re: Rookie
If your clutch happens to look like this, you are somewhat in luck. It's a aftermarket "comet" clutch. It's repairable & tuneable, but it's drawback is everywhere you look for G1 parts may not lead you to parts for your clutch. I like that clutch, and ran one on mine for a while (untill it was worn out, but I did get it used). I only switched because I work at the dealer, and newer style G16 clutches & their parts were readily available to me. The G1 clutch is unique in the sense that it has a oil injection drive gear on the back, which no other models have (excluding the G3a, which used a G1 engine). That distinction limits your options for toying with other clutches like I did on my G2.

Re: Rookie
I have one of those Comet style G1 clutches not being used. I'd entertain selling it. PM me if interested.

Re: Rookie
Replaced belt with OEM clutch grabs at high revs and Jerk stars all the time once engaged no problem, does not disengage at low speed tracks well up hill witha 500 pound load. attached is a picture of the clutch ...can this be repaired or cleaned?

Re: Rookie
that's the stock first gen clutch. remove it, inspect condition and if ok clean, lube and reinstall. Parts are getting hard to come by for it but I love this cutch for ease of pushing the cart if disabled. This clutch has what I call an Idle bearing the belt rides on at the bottom. The comet clutches are nice and smooth but very hard to push.

Re: Rookie
As far as I can tell, it's all the parts in general, with weights & pins being top of list. These days, by the time the customer decides its worth paying us to look at their G1, the "early" clutch is so far gone there's nothing I can do with it.

Re: Rookie
Makes sense. I ask because i have 2 of the early style clutches and I try to keep an eye out for OE parts. I thought I read that the G2 primary will work on the G1 as long as your not using the oil injector. Any truth to that
