285 -> 301
Here's the situation. A guy has a 1999 G16 with a 301 and he's getting a 23hp Vanguard from CPP. Another guy has a worn-out 285 and he wants the 301 in his cart.
Will these two engines adapt to each other's mounting points and wiring and such?? The cart with the 285 is a 1993 G8. I know that anything is possible but it is worth the time? Last edited by NO NO NO E-Z-GO!; 09-22-2007 at 07:54 PM.. |

Re: 285 -> 301
You'll have to mod the engine mounting and more than likely fab something up. You'll also need to get all the electical items: ignition module, coil, regulator, etc...

Re: 285 -> 301
Ok, since wiring so blatantly came into play, looks like I'm going to be rebuilding a 285.

Re: 285 -> 301
Would probably be easier if you don't feel like extra fab work.

Re: 285 -> 301
Believe me, I don't! If it were cutting, welding, bolting, modding fabbing, then I'd be all for it. But since it's electrical, I'll just step quietly away.

Re: 285 -> 301
You would only need the wiring harness and all the electrical items with it which is really not that many. I doubt it would be that much trouble especially with the body off the cart. The problem you might run into would just be figuring out where to mount some things and not sure if the starter/generator would work from the G16 since it is mounted on top (there might be enough room on the G9, not sure).

Re: 285 -> 301
if it is lifted there will be more then enough room i think for the starter on the top no no i dont think it would be that big of a job. but alot more work then just rebuilding the 285. but if your going with the 301 then you can show us all the fab work with pics so go with the 301..... he he he

Re: 285 -> 301
The cart is coming in tomorrow. I'll see what needs to be done then.

Re: 285 -> 301
If you do the conversion, be sure to get us lots of pic's. I have also thought of this conversion myself. I would like to have a G9 with a 301.

Re: 285 -> 301
The cart never came. How surprising. Anyone want to buy 4 motor mounts for a G2/G8/G9/G14 and a new Yamaha drive belt? When the customer comes looking for them, I'll just tell him that, since he never showed up, I went out of business and moved into the Whispering Walls Mental Institution.
