Question Just toasted my 3rd starter/generator?

This will be my 3rd starter /generator in the last 5 years. 2004 precedent fe290
last time I switched the s/g I changed battery and voltage regulator. But my battery was always sizzling after a ride. Im sure that not right. Riding today at full tilt heard a noise and she just slowed down and quit. Got her home and pulled the black cap off and parts just fell out.

Whats going on?

are you using OEM Parts? If not, that's a part of the problem. Once you get it back running, check the voltage at the battery, that will tell the whole story.

I agree with Golf Cart Guy. The aftermarket starter generators are typically junk. I only use OEM ones and I've never had that issue unless the voltage regulator had failed and was overcharging.

Took mine to a rebuilder and had it overhauled once (cooked by a faulty regulator) 3 years ago. no problems since. cheaper than buying one. stay away from those fleebay cheapos. have not heard one good thing about them.

I burned thru 2 aftermarket S/G's within in a year. Found a good deal on an OEM S/G and haven't had any problems since. A fualty regulator is what caused the initial problem.
