1984 ezgo
ifound the problem with my cart,
there was a rattle in the jug i pulled it apart and found the piston was to small. they added larger rings so it wouldnt rattle. i guess it worked for a while. it is 72.25 mm i know i need a piston but what size 25mm or the 50 mm oversize? |

Re: 1984 ezgo
your best bet would be a complete rebuild.

Re: 1984 ezgo
i believe they cost the same, so why not just go to the largest one! the kit comes withe jug, piston and rings to match. don' see a down side to it. unless you were thinking of boring out the jug at sometime in the future.

Re: 1984 ezgo
rmelvin, because the tolerances are so tight on these things (.007" between the piston and the cylinder - yes that is a correct number), your best bet is to do a top end rebuild. Loose piston, and/or loose rings = broken ring caught somewhere = more damage that will cost you more money in the long term.
A kit for the top end which includes gaskets, piston, rings, and cylinder will only set you back around $200, and you'll now have an engine that works like new. If you get stranded a few miles from where you want to be, guaranteed you won't be as thrilled that you saved $100. Me, I went with te standard displacement, as once my engine wears out, I can simply rebore the jug, and then get an oversized piston and rings to match. I also can't remember if you said you changed the crank seals - if you haven't, during the rebuild is a good time to do it. |
