Default Re: How fast should a Yamaha G2 go?

If you hit the limiter that a g2 does have the ignition cuts out, you will know it. The governor still works if turned all the way in is likely what you have. You don't go much faster without one because the cart is gear limited, the engine just can't run that fast. Put high speed gears in or lift the cart and put 22s or better on they gear it up the same way as HS gears do. You can swap a G2 over to G9 ignitor with no limiter, but the gain is not much and I don't recommend screaming a G9 without gears or big tires. You can disable/eliminate the governor it is posted here but again they only run couple mph faster lifted so less for non lifted or geared carts. You can float the valves with too much rpm, the high gearing helps keep rpm down some as there is a load on it yet. I've run my G9 flat out with no governor since I got it but never down a hill, and with 22s on it. It ran around 5K rpm, but now has a clone in it. It started to burn oil after 12+ years of me running it on trails and yardwork, imagine that. Only ran synthetic in it.

If your engine is reving out and you are not in high teens for speed then check out your clutches. Lifted carts will run about 27-30mph with 22/23 tires and no governor or usually fully tight governor (27 the one I gps'd still had governor on it)....but all carts are not the same. You should get about 10mph less with stock cart/gearing. Governor all the way in the engine should rev some at top speed. Also make sure your throttle cable is adjusted so it has the most travel it can and still idle when running.

Thanks for the reply. I will not be by the cart till this weekend. I plan to try bypassing the governor and then I will see how it runs. How involved is doing gears on the G2 carts? Is it better in your oppinion to do gears or lift the cart?

Depends on your use, gears are expensive but much cheaper than lifting it. You need a lift and wheels and tires and they cost more than gears unless you get 20" (last I looked) on the cheapest lift there is the price may be close to just gears. Gears are not that bad to do if you spun a wrench before but take a while to get in there.

Myself I would lift it anyway because I ride offroad all the time. They ride much nicer, more traction, look cooler, go faster....what is not to like lol. But some don't use a cart that way and are always on smooth grass or roads/etc. and don't care about a lift....then get gears.
