Default 2004 ezgo won't go

My 2004 ezgo won't go. It makes a scraping/clunking noise coming from the rear end, I checked both of the hubs and neither the hubs nor the axle teeth are stripped, what might be wrong with it?

The motor input shaft could be stripped or an axle could be broken?

Is it difficult to get to the input shaft?

It is easier to deal with if you remove the whole axle from the cart. You will need to remove plugs on the side of the housing then work it out from there. There are pics posted on here showing this more in detail.

You have to remove the motor.

The input shaft assembly (shaft, gear and two bearings) is held in place by a single snap ring. It is relatively easy to remove and replace with differential in cart.

It is the intermediate gear assembly that requires the freeze plugs to be removed to R&R, and is easier to do with the differential out of cart.

However, if you have a rear seat or box installed, it might be easier to pull the entire rear end out of the cart.

Not necessary to remove the plugs or intermediate shaft to remove input shaft. But you will need to lean the input shaft this-way-&-that-way to "thread the needle".
