Try the following though not sure it will matter. When it dies pull the plug boot part way off the plug. Pull it so you feel the metal hit the plug tip and back off so there is a gap in there. Does it run better? Also try a brand new plug when it dies. Mine would do this when the carb jet was off, it fouls the plug lean, plug looks great, it runs cool, don't ask me why. Running the newer G16 plug works better. Of course I jetted it and not a problem after that.

What's the best way to set timing on these motors? I have set it at least twice and still not sure it is set correct. The manual pictures do no show timing marks very accurate.

Also,I have good compression, spark, and fuel...so why the low rpm's??????

Did you use the same flywheel that came off that engine when you rebuilt it? I here you, the timing marks on the balancer "s*ck". I use the cam (big hole) and the mark on the crank (that one is useually ok), at that point cam should have the valves closed. To install the balancer, you'll need to rotate the crank (counterclockwise) alittle, install balancer and turn the crank back to the alignment on the cam. At that point (if lucky on firdt try) the mark on the cam/crank and balance sould look like \ / (at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock) roughly speaking. Hope that helped alittle.

Will it rev in neutral? Mine will rev to something like 4500 wot out of gear, yeah I did it once working on something. I have no tach, but it was higher than 30mph but not by a whole lot. If the crank key is messed up at all that screws the timing. However if you say it does this after X time, I'd say you are looking at a beak down in the ignitor, maybe coil, or maybe something strange like a head gasket or valve. The cam or ignition timing is not going to change after running, unless electrically made to do so. The ignitor does change the timing it retards to start I'm pretty sure and may have a rpm curve as well not sure. If you choke it or change the mix at idle and it only gets worse not better, then odds are not a fuel issue. If it was flow it should run fine soon as you turn it off and back on. Heat build up is often a sign of electrical failure. Since we seem to getting nowhere here maybe that will spark and idea or something.

Marks are spot on what ur saying, but motor still vibrates and low. Rpm like crazy...
