Painting-Is laquer okay?
I am going to paint my Ez-Go TXT. Is laquer okay to paint a golf cart, or do I need automotive paint?

Laquer is an automotive paint, ask any Hot Rodder. Ever hear of 36 coats of hand rubbed Laquer. Shine a mile deep

Newbie and Handyeman...
Welcome to the wonderful world of BGW and all the fun and madness that goes with it! lol Laquer drys faster than enamel but sure does need rubbed a lot to have that good looking finish but bugs don't seem to get stuck in it as much as during the dry time. The painter on the other hand may get higher...hee hee hee! |

Re: Painting-Is laquer okay?
Thanks for the advice.
Since my cost will be about 1/3 using laquer, I think I'll try that and see how it turns out. I can always start over if needed. |

Re: Painting-Is laquer okay?
I am custom painter with over 20 year of experience. I agree with napalaz lacquer is old technology. One draw back to it is, lacquer dries extremly hard and is prone to cracking. Lacquer was never known for durability. Painting flexible body panels could cause you problems. Pesonally a good base coat /clear coat paint would be better.
Don't get me wrong lacquer was good in its day. Lacquer jobs could be done awsome. Lacquer is some what user friendy, it dries fast, so it hard to run. Being be a great painter is not really a must. Just put down alot of even coats and color sand and buff the crap out of it for a deep shine. I guess being good with the buffer is key. The thing is nowadays you can get the same results without compromising durablity. Jus my 02. Good Luck. Mark |
