Angry smoke after incorrect battery install

My husband installed 6 new 12V batteries on a 2002 EZGO electric golfcart (mfg code=K502). They were not correctly connected in serial causing smoke-he disconnected and then reconfigured the batteries correctly.

What are the next steps to debug-the cart does not work. Did he fry something(controller??)

Thanks in advance.

12 volt batteries?

Oops. Big oops unless you have a 72 volt system.

Probably fried a few things.

Back to the smoke, if it came from the controller then it is fried. If 4 or more of the 6 batteries were backwards it would take out the fly-back diodes in the controller, which are not replaceable.

OK- 4 of the 6volt batteries were backwards - (go figure)- so he fried the controller now what? Is there a tech manual on how to to replace the controller? I'm not looking forward to looking up the price.

Changing a controller is not a big deal; you just need to be careful...
OK who is the mechanical one, you or your husband? Now you can get a little stronger controller! Sorry they are not cheap, do a little price shopping.
