smoke after incorrect battery install
My husband installed 6 new 12V batteries on a 2002 EZGO electric golfcart (mfg code=K502). They were not correctly connected in serial causing smoke-he disconnected and then reconfigured the batteries correctly.
What are the next steps to debug-the cart does not work. Did he fry something(controller??) Thanks in advance. |

Re: smoke after incorrect battery install
12 volt batteries?
Oops. Big oops unless you have a 72 volt system. Probably fried a few things. |

Re: smoke after incorrect battery install
Back to the smoke, if it came from the controller then it is fried. If 4 or more of the 6 batteries were backwards it would take out the fly-back diodes in the controller, which are not replaceable.

OK- 4 of the 6volt batteries were backwards - (go figure)- so he fried the controller now what? Is there a tech manual on how to to replace the controller? I'm not looking forward to looking up the price.

Its pretty straight forward. You can find manuals in the stickies at the top of the forum.

Re: smoke after incorrect battery install
Changing a controller is not a big deal; you just need to be careful...
OK who is the mechanical one, you or your husband? Now you can get a little stronger controller! Sorry they are not cheap, do a little price shopping. |
