Default 92 marathon engine swap

Hello everyone, I am new and thus is my first post but I would like some input. I have a 1992 ezgo marathon and the exhaust manifold bolts are destroyed and I can't put the manifold back on. Needless to say I am looking at engines right now to swap. Everything is stock right now. I want good power and reliability and as cheap as possible. My profile picture is the cart right now. I have read alot of posts about this and for the most part I have been informed. My main question is what engines are great that cost around 300.00 and what exactly will I need to make or purchase to use my current clutch. Thanks guys

Welcome to BGW.

Is that 92 a 2-stroke or 4-stroke motor. Both were offered.

You have what I refer to as "the holy grail"!

A 4-stroke Marathon is hard to beat for durability, and it is a perfect candidate for a big-block upgrade.

There are a couple different paths you can take. I would recommend a used Briggs Vanguard swap. You can find them used pretty cheap.

$300 for an engine (new) is a tall order, not to mention having the shaft cut, tapered and tapped or a clutch adapter, etc ... Check out vegascarts.com for some great, lower-cost options, Geoff is great at helping You get set up with what You need!

Having the head repaired isn't an option? Heli-coil, EZ-Lok, weld/drill/tap, plenty of repairs out there.

You'll be around 400 by the time you take the head to machine shop and get the bolts straight, thenopick up the rebuild kit. Or go for the CT rebuilds drop in engine. But that's a bit more expensive.

Well I appreciate everything guys. I am looking at the preditor 420 I believe. Just something cheap and it's around 300ish. I guess I need to buy a clutch taper and do some cradle mods.

Predator, or the bigger & badder VC440/460, are nice but lots of work.
Pics of the damage to the stock head?

keep in mind You'll also need to figure a way to retain your stock starter/generator, the predator has an exceptionally anemic setup, and you'll be unable to run basically any accessories whatsoever unless you reuse yours ... What looks like a cheap fix generally isn't with these carts, believe me
