G1 front suspension sag
Hello All,
I acquired a 85 G1 which appears to have a sagging front suspension. The front tires have way too much positive camber. You can however lift up the front end, returning it to the right height and the tires are fine. But when you drive it a short distance, the suspension sags again. The cart does appear to have a Jakes Lift Kit....I'm suspecting 6 inches. Are worn springs a common thing? Just curious before I buy two new spring/strut's and that doesn't fix the issue. On a side note, great site you guys have here.... I've been lurking for awhile. When I bought if this past summer, the clutch had blown, so I changed that. And as long as I was doing that, I rebuilt the top end completely, completely cleaned and power washed, painted frame and components black, painted body orange, added the required General Lee decals and horn, new black bench seat and seat back for front passengers as well as added rear seat for the kiddos and LED head and tail lights. Other than fixing the front suspension, I'd like to get new wheels and tires as well as changing both oil seals......I wasn't aware they were leaking when I did the engine rebuild....grrrrr And I'm seeing something about a muffler bbq..... So I need to understand that a bit more. Any other tips and tricks are much appreciated. In the meantime I'll be browsing a bunch of posts and utilizing the search function... |

Re: G1 front suspension sag
Now I'm seeing the ATV suspension trick/swap. But it appears that requires metal fabrication. Is that the only option for the lifted G1's?

Re: G1 front suspension sag
If you have the Jakes 6" lift then the camber is adjustable. There are three holes where the shocks bolt so you can adjust. The king pins and bushings could also be worn. Too much toe out will make the front end appear to sag.
