Default So what's the scoop with the G14

Just picked up (first cart) what I thought was a G16. Turns out it is a G14 with a G16 body... Should have paid closer attention to the VIN. The purpose of this purchase is to build a mild off-road cart for me and my son. Now I have it stripped down to the frame to replace the rusted floor board and install a Jakes LT kit. I am looking at possibly doing the VC 460 conversion, however it looks like there is not much support for this model. Can someone share the biggest differences and tell me why I can't find a posi-traction for a G14? The irony is the service manual I purchased covers the G14-G19. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

There are really no bad Yamaha's!! If your 14 is a late model, and has the Dana rear end, a posi may fit. But the Yamaha rear end is considered more robust!! And , you may not need the posi. The g14 came with that body style.

And a G14 is a decent cart and very capable off road!!

The thing with G14 is that its a 2-year only model, so most aftermarket parts for G16 that would fit a G14 are not mentioned as "compatible with G14". Motor parts for G16 will NOT work for you, G16 axle parts will not work for you IF yours is an early G14 with the "yamaha-built axle". There is no posi for the yamaha-built axle. All G16 bodies will fit yours (with a hole drilled for air inlet). Yours has a somewhat unique engine used in very few models, its like a G2-G9 engine, but its a 301cc instead of a 285cc. All your Stock clutch parts will be similar to G2-G9, not G16.

I have been tearing it up on a g14 and it has been awesome. Biggest down fall is the front end spindle bushings. Could b a better design. I can't afford long travel and have. Of been able to find a atv front end yet. Would really like a banshe for my front swap

Thanks for the responses! Keep them coming... Not too concerned with the engine piece as we will be doing a conversion of some sort - probably the VC 460. As far as the rear end goes, I was looking through the parts manual and this rear axle does not look like the one shown for the G16. The one on this cart does not have the rear diff. cover but rather the case splits in half for disassembly like the G9 axle. I am assuming this is the "Yamaha" rear?

yes, I'd say you got the better one. There seem to be some imput shaft failures with the Dana.

If I were you, I'd do all maint on the car that you read about on here. Make it run perfect!! You may find the stock motor has all the power you need!!

Talk to Don Plowman for clutches etc. You will be impressed with what can be done.

OK -Now that we have confirmed I have a Yamaha rear, a few more questions...

1. Where can I get the replacement case gasket, axle seals/outer bearings, and an input
shaft seal?
2. Since I will not be running a governor, is it ok to remove the governor shaft, fork,
and weights from the diff. and plug the shaft hole?

OEM parts are your best bet. If you've got the rear torn apart anyway, I don't see anything wrong with removing the internals.
