Steering Gear Oil Yamaha G1
I read somewhere that you can pack the steering column with grease. Anyone had success? If so could you please give me instruction on how to do it?

Re: Steering Gear Oil Yamaha G1
Okay great I have some brake caliper grease. Is that okay?
Also can I lube/grease the knuckles? Is that small nipple for a grease gun? |

Re: Steering Gear Oil Yamaha G1
OK, no standard issue Yamaha had grease fittings from the factory (with the exception of the clutches on most gas carts) . Never any in the steering or suspension. Whatever you are looking at is likely not a grease fitting.

Re: Steering Gear Oil Yamaha G1
Not likely. Most G1 primary clutch had none, don't think the grease fitting appeared on the rear clutch until the G2. But check the rear clutch anyway, the sliding sheave was nearly the same all the way up to the G22, and if it has ever been replaced, it would be the newer version with a grease fitting.

Re: Steering Gear Oil Yamaha G1
The early G1 clutch was a disassemble and lube by hand like a lot of Yamaha stuff is even to this day.
Packing the steering with grease was how they wanted it done once the early cars with oil in them started to leak. |
