Default '87 G1, Run When Cold, Not When Warm?

Fellas,

I finally got the '87 G1 done and have starting road testing it. I have an odd situation that I have never encountered with my other 2 stroke carts.

When the thing is cold it starts up fast and runs great. When the engine is running it is spot on and it will not stop. However, after it is run for 10 mins or so and you stop, it won't start up again. The starter tries to spin the motor but just kinda shutters. The applicable solenoid is clicking off and on during this time. Really, it completely mimics a bad battery not having enough juice to turn the motor. However, my battery is brand new, literally. I bought it a couple of days ago. It's good.

Now, when the cart is left alone for a few minutes it starts right back up again like nothing is wrong. Hence, it's not a battery problem. That said, when the cart is run again for 10 mins so, same problem.

I'll be able to do a bit of voltage testing throughout the circuit tomorrow in the running / non-running state but I thought I would post this prior to then on the chance that someone has encountered something like this before.

Any thoughts?

Is the S/G or solenoid reacting to heat somehow ?

When it stops running will it fire up in reverse if it does that will rule out s/g and point to forward solenoid the solenoids can be taken apart and contacts may need cleaned

Thanks.

Spicey, I tried both F and R when the cart isnt running. Same issue with either setting.

Ray, I plan on checking S/G output running / not running tomorrow.

This is odd for sure.

My starter is bad. Heat is doing something to it internally. It is spinning when cold but stuttering when warm. It's getting 12v in both cases. I am not going to monkey with it to try to figure out what the issue is. I'll just replace it.

Update: Starter replaced and all is good now. Given the cooling fan on the starter / generator pulley and the heat shield that attaches to the side of it overheating S/Gs must be fairly common on these carts.
