Default G16 engine replacement

Well this past weekend the engine on my G16 seized up. At this point I'm going to pull it apart and see how bad it is and if it can be rebuilt. However I was wondering if any one has a recommendation on a replacement engine. Is this a cheeper way to go?

I would go with the Vegas Carts 460, if you're looking for a replacement engine. However, I would see what your engine needs first and do a cost - benefit analysis.

Check out the "Clone Engine Swap" section. There is lots of good information there if you decide to go that route.

I am currently doing a build on a G16 from the frame up and debated a lot on what motor to use. If you are not looking for a ton of power and want to upgrade, I would recommend a vegas carts motor, you can get everything for about $1500. That was my first choice , but now momma gave me the go ahead to do the Vangaurd instead, more money but a lot more power

Mr Mike on this site has saved several g16 's with connecting rod issues. The bearingless aluminium connecting rod whether from neglect or over revving seizes to the crankshaft and sometimes takes the camshaft and or balance shaft with it. But in every case he has been able to save the crank and replace usually the camshaft and rod. As long as the block or front cover aren't broken you may get away with a couple of hundred dollars in parts.

No experience with this motor yet on this but I have done a hand full of robin 295 motor and they have same set up bearingless connecting rods crank may look bad but it's generally just aluminum and a really fine Emery cloth usually will clean it right up

Thanks for the replys. I'll get the motor pulled out and crack it apart to see what I have. I would like to repair it if at all possible.

Well I have another engine on the way to me in Nova Scotia Canada all the way from Florida I'll be documenting the entire transplant. Got to make one out of the two engines. But should be quick swap. Here's hoping all goes well.

Well the engine arrived and I finally had a few mins to get into it. I knew what the engine was condition wise when I purchased it. I was fairly sure the cam gear was gone. But it seems like I'll be swapping cranks as well. Now to haul the engine out of the cart and begin the transplant.

Are those pics from your engine or the one you just bought?
Have you checked the oil level on your old engine yet?
Make sure that the carb hasn't allowed gas to fill the crankcase and lock it.
I have had a few cars pass by me where the owners thought the engine was locked up. It wasn't. It was simply full of gas and oil.

They are pics of the doner that I just purchased. I'm a little disappointed the crank is buggered but I did know what I was purchasing. The motor in the cart was running when it locked up. It was Going at a nice slow speed when it happened. It was also making a terrible racket just before it went. Hoping to dig into it this weekend.
