Default Total noob here with gear issues

I have been searching and I am sure there is a thread with the answer already there, but you guys have so many posts!! I have a gas Yamaha cart that falls in and out of gear in reverse. It stays in gear fine in forward. Anybody know what I should start looking at, or happen to remember a thread I can reference?

Bad shift cable, or shift cable adjustment.

In the G2/9 carts the cables are tight against each other (not tight, but no slack), this is what keeps it in gear. Too tight and its hard to shift, too loose it will fall out of gear, also has to be centered so it goes into both gears enough not just all into one. Normally this is never off unless someone screwed with it, or only needs a minor adjustment. The shifter should sort of pop into gear and move harder between them, but not be difficult to shift.

Thanks, I think this is my issue. I found if I tighten one way it stays in reverse fine, other way drive fine, need to find the balance...

If the back of the shifter has the 2 cables, look close and see how it pulls both tight in neutral. I had to roll the cart to feel when it hits the gears in trans to see how far into the gear it was getting each way. Sort of a pita to do but once its right it should not change.
