Default Yamaha Identification

I've just picked up a Yamaha from my next door neighbor and I was told that maybe its a G4 . It runs but needs a lot of TLC . I've never owned a Yamaha and need some help . I can't find a ID tag on it anywhere although there are a couple of rivets on the left rear frame that look like they held a tag at one time . It needs rewired and I would like to know the model and year so I can print out a wiring schematic .

Heres a few pictures to help ID year and Model .

TIA Jess

It's a G1 with a 2 stroke motor but not sure what year. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-y...s-newbies.html will be a big help in finding what you need to know.

That is a G1
Serial # should be under rear bumper mount left side

jjstram , Thanks !

BrutalSoldier , that's what I thought , but all that's there is two rivets that held it at one time . I like the way that Yamaha kept moving the ID tag around over the years . I spent an hour trying to find one that is missing , all because I wasn't sure where it was supposed to be located at .

Be sure to check the frame under the batt. box area for rust damage. It hides well and can be dangerous if not fixed.

I'll check again for a stamped serial number. I was looking for a tag , silly me . Yeah its got some rust around the battery box area , I will also check that out closer .

I'm not to worried , I've got a welder .

Bottom right pic. The numbers are stamped in the frame. They are HARD to see. Some g1 owners said they found the numbers stamped in the cross member under the engine cover between the shock mounts in the rear
