Top End 12mph then slacks off???
Hi I'm new to the golf cart world and also the forum, Thanks for any help in advance.
My cart is a 1994 EZGO Medalist twin cylinder Robin engine, "all stock" and my problem is: when I go full throttle the cart speeds up to 12-13 mph top speed and once reached it falls back to 10 mph. It always does this no matter whether I accelerate easily or all at once. I have opened both clutches and cleaned / lubricated everything, marked both of them so the New belt is getting full travel. I have read many post, but what exactly should I try first to correct this?? I am not looking to do warp speeds, but rather just run properly, from what I am told around 15mph. Thanks |

Tighten up on the Governor Spring. The Governor is shutting you down.

Thanks, I did try that as I've read others doing so, however after turning it about 10 times I gained about 2mph, however it would still max out then back off, (like something is restricting it)

Re: Top End 12mph then slacks off???
Tightening the governor will raise your speed, it doesn't disable the governor. When your cart reaches a certain speed the governor mechanically prevents it from going any faster. There are usually flyweights in the trans/engine that spin with speed. Once you reach a certain speed the weights apply force to the throttle, usually directly through the throttle linkage. If the governor is working against you and it's all the way adjusted, you are done, unless you disable/disconnect the governor. You'll get more speed, but you can damage the engine. 15 mph is about all you'll get with the governor.
