Re: How do u remove rust from disk rotor
That rust would probably come right off once you used the brakes, but you could use a little light sandpaper on it and it should be fine.

Re: How do u remove rust from disk rotor
Those sure look like Ezgo 2Five disc brakes to me. A little sand paper will knock that out.

They are ezgo 2five disks. One front and one rear. I started my wheel project today.

Re: How do u remove rust from disk rotor
120, 200, maybe even 80 rocks. The discs will put themselves right back to normal quickly. Just don't use any spray rust cleaners or rust removers (like WD-40) anywhere near the brake pads. Brake cleaner only.

Re: How do u remove rust from disk rotor
You can get the rust off the painted part and repaint, but the contact surface for the disk rotor isn't worth the time to do.
The reason being is that when you use the brakes, that rust will go away. But as you use the brakes it is constantly giving you a fresh, clean, bare metal surface that will rust. If you have two cars, let one sit for 2 weeks and drive the other. Look at the rotors on the one that sat, rust. But as 70oldracer said, the rust on the contact surface will go away once you hit the brakes a couple times. |

Re: How do u remove rust from disk rotor
Thanks. I did clean them with some light grit sandpaper as advised. They cleaned up nicely. Items of note. Since I was painting the wheels per side, passenger then front, I noticed the parking brake on the 2five locks the rear disks not the front. I could spin the front rotors to clean 100%. The rears just a little less.
Also again the dealer never did the Brake Burnishing Procedure For new vehicles or after replacement of brake pads or rotors, it is recommended that approximately 20 stops with moderate braking from 20 mph to 5 mph should be made without coming to a complete stop. This proce- dure will assure that your new brakes will function to their full potential and maintain maximum wear resis- tance. Once my wheels completely dry I'll give this a go. So I'll be running brake test instead of my speed test today. Lol Thanks again. |
