Default EZ-GO TXT steering rack options

So, when I turned my cart tightly today, my wheels just stayed there..... The steering wheel turned back the other direction freely, but nothing moved.

After a few minutes of reflection, I decided the smartest plan of action was to just floor it and turn the wheel in the opposite direction and eventually the rack caught back. I promptly went and put it away in the barn.

So, here's the question. What is broken? Is it repairable? If not then are there other aftermarket options that are a little more stout than the stock rack?

I'm baffled as to how it broke. I have not hit anything, and I'm not hard on the cart. I do have a lift on it, but it's a dropped spindle deal that left the steering rack in the stock location.

Any insight and advise is greatly appreciated.

What year is your cart?

Mine's a 1998 and I rebuilt it without much trouble.

Turn the wheel back and forth while parked and see if it regularly hits a "dead zone" (pinion), or if it hits a dead zone only at the end of the rack. Likely a tooth broke off one or the other, but there is a spring that hold the rack and pinion tightly together. Assuming yours is a similar year to mine, I'd think that would be visible from under the cart.

If you haven't done so, download the manuals.

Usually it's a tooth or two on the rack or pinion gear. Rebuild kit fixes it.
