Always check your U bolts on your lifted CC sparkies!
This... is my first cart: (1998 48V Regen 2)
KastleKarts008-1.jpg Pretty nice huh? After my split up, the ex sold it, and I thought all was well after 5 years! I get a call from my best bud and said that the owner of it had a problem... something happened to the axle! I just had to see it! here's what I saw... 050.JPG 042.JPG The owner said that the brakes were locking up, so he readjusted them, and they got worse! His wife (disabled from falling off of a horse) was getting the mail, stopped, and CLUNK! there goes the axle! I explained to him that the U bolts stretch over time, and will cause the axle to twist and lock up the brakes! Well... he didn't know that! He also left it discharged for the last 2 months! Here's the kicker... 5 of the 6 batteries are original from when I replaced them in 06! I told him that replacing the U bolts, cables, speed sensor, and misc. won't cost much, (everything was ripped out!) but he better expect to replace the batteries! He said he'd like to try to revive them first... I'm gonna get them back on the road because they love the cart! (and I did too!) PEOPLE! Check the tightness of your U bolts on your lifted CC sparky at least once a year! .02 |

. . . that is a good reason to use at least Grade 5, or better yet, Grade 8 U-bolts on leaf springs . . .

Never have seen the u-bolt problem get that extreme.
With as many times as I've had my springs on and off on mine, I don't think this is a worry for me - I've contemplated using wing nuts for convenience I've been in there so often. |

Since they don't do very much maintenance on it, (ride it till it breaks) I've already talked them into an AS Super Sport rear lift (double U bolts each side) like I have on my gasser: 001 - Copy (2).JPG But, I first have to talk to Tom at CPP to see if it's within their budget, If not... I'll get some better grade U bolts! I'm still shocked and amazed at the carnage! |
