Best Multimeter
Recently got bitten by the cart bug and purchased a new to me 2012 Precedent IQ. Learning as much about battery maintenance as I can. Is there a multimeter at a decent price, with good accuracy, anyone can recommend or are all entry level multimeters about the same? I'm a rookie so I don't want one that will be too complicated to use. Just really want to be able to monitor individual batteries, as well as the whole series together. Thanks in advance.

Re: Best Multimeter
Like all tools, you can go from cheap harbor freight gear to SnapOn priced tools. It's a pretty simple technology that seems to work well at all price points.
My 200.00 Fluke didn't have some of the settings that a 10.00 Wal-Mart meter had so for my cart I am often using the cheap one. |

I have 3 different Fluke DMM. I got them all from eBay for what I thought was a good price. All work very well. I use any 7 function model.

Re: Best Multimeter
I got mine at harbor freight for about $20. It has worked great. Some things I get there last pretty well and some things don't. You can spend a lot more but I don't think it's necessary.

Re: Best Multimeter
I agree, unless your a professional tech a basic cheapo is fine. My fluke meter is from another profession in another life! I would never spend bucks like that to check the voltage on my cart.

Re: Best Multimeter
I think a novice should probably start out with a cheaper tester. down the road you could always upgrade. I would hate to see you burn out the really expensive tester on Your First Try

What not to get... Don't get an analog meter. Unless you really know what you are doing.

Re: Best Multimeter
A free HF covers the needs of cart use and you wont feel so bad having the usual mishaps, dropping it, losing it, driving over it, etc.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I've found a few in the $20-30 range that seem pretty versatile, get decent ratings and supposedly relatively accurate. Thanks again.
