plowmans spring with briggs motor
I just installed a briggs 16 hp into my g16. I had the plowmans kit on it and still have the secondary spring and sheave on it. IT has great snap from idle but then kinda falls on its face a little and slowly pics up speed. Is it due to the heavier spring? Should I put the stock one in and should I change the sheave back to stock?

Re: plowmans spring with briggs motor
You shouldn't need the heavier spring with the Vanguard. Stock spring should be good, and use a new one if yours is old. They will compress with age.
How are you running the accelerator cables? Thru the gov or straight to the carb? New u-max spring on top, new stock spring, 12 yr old stock spring |

Throttle cable from the petal goes to the bell on the motor. The bell has a rod that goes to the carb. Throw is perfect.

Stock spring is what you want.

Re: plowmans spring with briggs motor
Ok I changed to the stock spring but its the same. Decent take off but a little bog right after. Also, Ive read it should tear up grass on take off but mine cant but I do have 23" tires. Itll hit 40mph in about 1/8 mile. I put the stock spring in hole 1 and Im still using the plowmans sheave half on #1. Should I try a different hole?

Re: plowmans spring with briggs motor
I'm using the same engine, 780 primary, Plowmans secondary with stock spring. Works well enough for me. It falls on it's face too, but that's from not having a rev kit or big carb on it.

Re: plowmans spring with briggs motor
Works good enough aint ever enough for me. And falling on its face would not be from not having a rev kit or bigger carb. Yes it works really good but I only settle for great. After this bog is fixed itll be great.

Re: plowmans spring with briggs motor
Strong power up to 4500, then power falls off from the lack of the ability to rev. Cam stops making torque around there. Good luck.
