Default Ignition Switch

I recently bought a 2000 TXT cart. There is not an ignition switch or wiring for one. The previous owner used jumper cables run the cart. I would like to install new batteries but a mechanic told me to be careful because if the cart is on I could cause an explosion. How do I make sure it is off without an ignition switch before I install new batteries?

to BGW

I don't know about a TXT, but on a CC if the two ignition wires aren't touching, that is the same as the switch being off.

I think I am in over my head with this cart. I do have the ignition switch the the previous owner cut the wires because they did not have a key. I was told they hook the jumper cables to the batteries and then to another part that I can't remember the name of.

Wires jumpered together are probably behind the dash where key switch is/was.

Might be obvious if you pull dash-- ( the two different colored wires connected and warped with elect. tape)

I attached the pictures of my wiring and my ignition switch. I also attached a picture of the charging connection port. Have you ever seen this? Or why would there be two ports?

We are getting somewhere. You have an Ezgo TXT Series cart.
Looks like somebody added an SB50 charger port. Only one of those charge ports should be connected to the battery pack and only one should fit your charger...... which one is it? The D shaped one or the smaller SB50?
Now what do you want to do? Do you need a new key switch?

PS
I think your mechanic is guilty of using scare tactics to discourage you from working on your cart.
It is very very very unlikely that the batteries would hold enough hydrogen gas during install to cause an explosion. If in doubt, let the batteries sit 24 hours after charge before connecting. Explosive gasses are only produced while bulk charging. Since the hydrogen gas is lighter than air it will vent out when the batteries sit.
