Voltage reducer
So i hooked up voltage reducer form carts unlimited on my 05 club car. It works very good but each time I disconnect one of the batteries and connect back i get a good spark. Is there any way to get rid of that spark ?

Re: Voltage reducer
You would need some way to supply power to the reducer while the batteries are not hooked up. Or you could put a power switch on reducer.

Re: Voltage reducer
Run your positive wire through a fuse then through the key switch or any kind of switch then to your reducer. Then when the key or switch is off no spark.

Re: Voltage reducer
the yellow wire goes to the key switch , or an on/off switch

Re: Voltage reducer
If I'm not mistaking, to keep the Sparks away you need a switch on the red wire.
Not sure but you may also need a resistor, and or diode. Sergio where are you. |

Re: Voltage reducer
i hate to say it but your mistaken
the yellow wire energizes the reducer if it has no power then red wire is dead , no spark done a few scotty reducers in my time never used a resistor, and or diode the diagram is what scotty sends out |

Re: Voltage reducer
The first time a DC-DC converter is powered after is has been disconnected from the batteries, there will be an inrush of current as the input capacitors inside the voltage converter need to charge.
What I do on mine is to use an incandescent light bulb (60w or so) and run it in series with the positive cable for a few seconds. Just stand the light bulb on the battery post and touch the cable on the threads of the light bulb, a 60w light bulb is about 240Ω and it will charge the capacitors without a spark. You can then just put the cable on the battery post without a spark. Those input capacitors will then stay charged, using a very small amount of current, even if the Yellow trigger wire is OFF. |

Re: Voltage reducer
I will not disagree with you. I was just looking at the wiring diagram, I have no hands on experience with that reducer to speak of.
