My Yamaha is acting up
I have a G2 I believe an has ran like a champ for me till yesterday. I play discgolf and everything was running well. I pulled up to take my turn and the cart would turn over but wouldn't fire up. I took it home and it started. Drove it around for another hour an it would not start again. Let it set over night and it fired right up. I checked fuel pump and it is pumping. Checked spark has strong spark. What is the thoughts on if the little brain looking box mounted on the gas tank going bad? And what does it do?

Re: My Yamaha is acting up
crash, it might be the brushes in the starter, they do that when they need replacing, turn on key, hold pedal down, then lightly tap on starter, if it chugs/or starts, then that's it,, new brushes are 25$ not hard to do yourself, you can see videos online;;; there are plastic caps you can pry off to look at the brushes, if the wire is at the bottom they are bad, get back with any questions, steve

Re: My Yamaha is acting up
Thanks for the reply. I may have asked the wrong way. it turns over but will not start, If it were the brushes then it should not even turn over correct. It acts as if there is no fuel or maybe no spark when it will not start.

Re: My Yamaha is acting up
There is no test for the ignitor! All other ignition parts can be tested. But the best way to check is to carry a good spark plug with you, and when it stops running, plug that plug into the spark plug wire, ground it to the valve cover, wind the motor over and see if there is spark at that plug, or,,, Carry a spark plug tester, (seven or eight bucks at auto parts store) and connect it to spark plug wire and spark plug in the head and wind it over, there is a little window that will show spark going through it. No spark, means a bad igniter most likely!! Complements of Mr. SB450sl!!
And they're expensive Dang-it!! |

Re: My Yamaha is acting up
If you live near a harbour freight they are a great tool for $5.99. I can't tell you the number of times I have used it over the years.

Re: My Yamaha is acting up
Yeah and they were probably $2.99 when we bought them. But in a no start situation it sure answers the question " is there any spark ? "
