Default Carb spitting gas out the inllet

86 G1 gas
new bore,piston ,-rings, top bearing,gaskets

The problem I have is gas spits out the inlet of the carb. before and after rebore.
I checked the muffle and BBQ it.

I cleaned the reed valve and they look good now ----BUT they are made with a small step at the base where the valve and the other plate screws to the housing. There is an air gap there at the base , it seems like this should not be there.

The motor is hard to start usually , when it runs, it feels good for a while ,then it gets weak and quits, wont restart until it cools off.
I am waiting on a new reed valve ,,but I not sure about the gap at the bottom of the housing of the reed valve holder.

What else could be the problem!!!

Thanks
I ll let you know if new reeds does it
What do you think about the reed housing having a step at the bottom near the screws, that has a small air gap where the valve meets the housing?
This is my frist reed valve project involvement and the videos all say they should be flush.
