Club Car DS Problem
I just replaced all of the solenoids on my cart. It used to run both forward and reverse, now it will only go in reverse. The reason for replacing the solenoids is I only had 2 speeds in either direction; very slow and full speed.
I have found several wiring diagrams for my cart but I'm not sure of the proper sequence of operation. I looks like when you move the forward/reverse switch the first solenoid on the right pulls in. As you depress the gas pedal it engages the speed switches. The speed switch pulls in the next solenoid on the right until all of the solenoids are pulled in taking the heater coils out of the motor circuit. Are the coils supposed to operate sequentially from right to left (facing rearward) when the pedal is depressed? If this is in fact how it operates then I should be able to troubleshoot / fix it. The COM terminal of all micro-switches in the speed box are connected together to +36v positive. As You press the pedal, they activate the solenoids in sequence starting with the Master solenoid on the drivers side (No resistor coil on top). Once you post the Year of the cart we can verify which wire diagram you should be using. |

The SN on the cart begins with A8801 I took pictures of the coil pack before I lifted any wires and referenced those when landing the wires back (plus most of the wires are "to length") so mixing them up would be difficult. The malfunction was completely my fault.
There is a strip which mounts across the front of the coils. When I tightened it down, it pressed against the yellow wire that acts as the ground for all the coils. When I put the car in reverse, it burned out the F/R switch. When I put the car in forward it would not move. I fixed this today by taking the nuts off the old solenoids and bottoming them out on the posts, then mounting the strip across the nuts (giving the yellow ground wires 1/4" clearance). I put the yellow wire straight to battery negative until the F/R microswitch arrives. The cart transitions beautifully now in forward and reverse; no more neck snapping on takeoff. I guess the previous owner just wired around those for whatever reason. Now, on to the brakes not working..... |

Brakes-smakes. If the brakes don't stop you something else will. Good to see you found a simple solution.

They will stop you eventually, you just have to apply them way ahead of time.

Reminds me of something I did years ago. Had an old '80 Malibu as a winter beater. Of course the parking brake was rusted solid. Got on a small ferry [think it held about 8 cars] to cross the river north of here. Once I was parked on the ferry the operator asked me to put on my parking brake. I opened the door and stamped my foot down on the deck. ON! I told him. Thought he was gonna piss himself laughing!
