ezgo pds tail light glows when pedal pressed

Hello.
I have a ezgo pds that has headlights and tail lights wired to two of the six volt batteries that produce 12 volts. I understand this isn't the ideal way of wiring them. But, my problem is my tail lights will glow slightly when the pedal is pressed even when the the light switch is in the off position (this should not happen). They glow bright when the light switch is turned on like they should. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Its like there is back voltage going to them, but what would cause this?

Which pedal?
Does this cart have factory lights? (key has 3 positions; off, on, on with lights)

No it is an aftermarket light kit. The switch is mounted behind where the back of your legs would be when you are sitting in the driver seat. When the accelerator pedal is pressed the tail lights glow dimly.

Sounds like a bad battery cable or bad connection. Instead of feeding the controller through the primary cables some is bleeding through the light circuit.
