re: help speeding up gas 89 club car ds
Disconnect the speed governor: $0.00.
It's that long metal rod that runs from the transaxle up to the carburetor. Ignore anything you read in this forum about zip ties, etc. Those methods only apply to 1992-newer carts. But be careful not to over-rev the motor. Without the speed governor the motor can be revved to unsafe levels, so unless the person driving it has a good feel for the limitations of the motor, it should be fixed and operational. That being said, neither of my two carts have the speed governor hooked up, but I'm the only one who drives them. |

If you don't want to completely disconnect the governor, you can just adjust the rod where it connects at the transaxle for a little more speed (but not as much as you'd get by removing it entirely).

If you're over-revving it you'll feel the whole cart shake uncomfortably. It's a bit hard to explain over an internet forum. Just go easy on the gas and try not to floor it. If you're not comfortable, there's a pretty fair amount of adjustment that can be done where the rod connects to the transaxle.

You can also speed up the cart by lengthening the rod that runs between the gas pedal and the black control box (the rod runs under the floor pan). There are threaded adjusters on each end that will allow for this.

You can install an inexpensive digital tach for about $25. They can be found on ebay or amazon.
