Gas Club Car not charging
I have a gas club car and it is not charging the battery. I have replaced the voltage regulator twice because I am only getting a reading of 12.4V on the battery but that hasn’t fixed the issue. I replaced it twice because I thought maybe I got a bad one the first time around. I tested the starter generator and it is working fine. Brushes look good and when I bypass the voltage regulator I get a reading of 15.5V at the battery. I just replaced the battery too and suggestions would be appreciated

Re: Gas Club Car not charging
Does it have the rectifier mounted on the frame next to the black box? If it does, that is what is bad

Re: Gas Club Car not charging
What year is your cart? Which engine?
With the SG producing the correct voltage when tested, either there is a wire break between the SG and regular or som of the older ones have a rectifier on the frame like Danny said, that can be bad. |

Re: Gas Club Car not charging
This might be a dumb question but is a rectifier and voltage regulator the same thing?

Re: Gas Club Car not charging
Depends on the design, bu typically a regulator and a rectifier are different, and have different functions.
I don't think an 07 precedent should have a rectifier on it. The yellow wire from the SG should go straight to the voltage regulator. The regulator needs a clean connection to ground on the black wire, and it needs a good 12V supply from the solenoid coil side on the red wire to provide power. How are you bypassing the regulator? Are you doing that at the regulator or at the SG? |

Re: Gas Club Car not charging
Wires go straight from SG to VR so you’re right I don’t have the rectifier then. I am bypassing it at the SG by disconnecting the yellow wire from the starter generator and connecting a jumper wire from that terminal to the negative terminal. I will check the red and clack wires from the VR tonight and see if maybe that’s the issue. Thanks for the help!

Re: Gas Club Car not charging
When you check the red and black wires, also disconnect the yellow wire at the VR as well, and jump that to frame ground or battery - and make sure the SG produces voltage.
If it does not, there's a break somewhere in the yellow wire between the SG and the VR. |

Re: Gas Club Car not charging
My 2007 XRT800, which is a DS, has the rectifier i described; It provides the only path for the S/G to charge the battery. When it goes bad, it drains the battery
