Default When i convert to 48volt question?

When I get ready to switch over to 48 volts which is better 6-8 volt or 8-6 volt batteries? Which brand and type of charger should I go with? and how much difference will I see in speed and torque. It's a 07 PDS with GE D1162 motor,Alltrax DCX 500 controller, 1ga cables and will switch to a 48 volt HD solenoid instead of the current 36 volt. Running 23" tires and a EZGO limited slip differential.
Thanks David

I am doing mine this weekend. I am going with 8- 6v batteries only because 8v are cost prohibitive and not widely available here. I even played with running 4-12v, but they would not fit without significant modification. 8v will fit you stock battery racks. I'll let those who have actually done it tell ya home much improvements they got. I hope to find out this weekend. I ordered a dual charger from LVS which does 36v and 48v. It's a nice looking charger.

On the batteries it really depends on your budget. If you can afford new batts then go for it, if not just buy the two extra and have 8-6v, which in return will give you a longer run time, more amp hours, check with the site sponsors they will take care of your as far a charger goes. With a 500 amp controller set the output around 80% to protect the motor, take pics, good luck.

Mathematically, you are adding 30% more lead = amperage storage. You are also adding 10% weight.... You should have anywhere from 20-25 % longer run time on a stock motor & controller.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info guys, I really want to see what this thing will do on 48 volts. It might be a little while because of expense, batteries, new solenoid and big kicker is a new charger. There's no way to convert a 36 to 48 is there ?

I assume you have to disconnect the 2 extra batteries when you charge with extra 12 volt charger?

Assume nothing

It is not necessary to disconnect anything when using 2 chargers. The chargers send a charge between their two connections only. It looks something like this when looking at the 36v and the 12v connections only....

You can also short wire your 36v solenoid to 36v and don't need to change it either.
