tempermental F|R switch - 1999 ezgo marathon

I have a stock 1999 ezgo electric marathon. When the switch is in Forward the cart always goes forward, but when switch is moved to reverse it still goes forward. I can move the switch back and forth real fast it will eventually go in reverse. It has done this for a couple of years but now my kids are going to start driving the cart and I want to fix this. Do I need just replace the micro switch or is it an adjustment issue. One note is the previous owner unplugged the reverse buzzer and I have never hooked it back up. It is under the front cowl and will be hard to get at. any suggestions??

Welcome to bgw. The F&R lever has been switched a million times since your cart rolled off of the assembly line. The switch conducts high amperage thru soft copper contacts ...Eventually the dragging of the contacts and conducting amperage reduce the contacts. Likely time for a new switch or a serious rebuild.

Are you sure your cart is a '99 Marathon? Did they even make the Marathon in '99? Are you sure it's even a '99?

99 will be a txt.

i believe that they moved teh rev buzzer under the frt cowl in 04, but i could be wrong on the buzzer.

You can run you serial number thru SHOPEZGO.com. It will tell you the year and make.

As stated it sounds like you have a bad f-n-r switch.

I am sure it is a 1999 via the serial number. I am sorry, it is a txt with something called a marathon upgrade(headlights, taillights & horn, etc). What do you mean a serious rebuild or new switch? This means more than replacing the microswitches?

Maybe a TXT with a FREEDOM upgrade?

Now that we are sure of the year, do you have a Series drivetrain or a DCS drivetrain?

It is the freedom upgrade, I took off the stickers and forgot the name of the model, sorry. It has a (tow/run/maintenance?) switch under the passanger seat, does that make it a DSC? I can take pics tonight if that will help.

Is your F&R switch on the dash or in the middle of the seat? At the seat you have a DCS cart if it is a switch on the dash its a PDS cart.

The cart is a DCS if it is truly a 1999 model and has a Run/Tow switch. F/R assembly is under the legs and from inside the battery bay it looks kinda like a grey hockey puck thingy with smaller wires attached. There are microswitches involved that don't like water, and the reverse horn is also part of this assembly.
